Looking forward, our themes for April and May will be: Math; We will be finishing fractions and then on to decimals. Reading/Language Arts; Our theme is "Nature, Friend or Foe". Comprehension strategies will include noting details, categorize and classify, fact and opinion, author's viewpoint, making generalizations and cause and effect. The strategy focus will include summarizing, monitoring/clarifying, predicting and infering.
In Language Arts, we will be studying adverbs, prepositions and prepositional phrases. The Fourth Grade will be writing poems in April and a speech in May.
We will continue to use the high frequency words in Spelling, as well as vowel pairings and consonant blends. Fourth grade is also emphasizing academic vocabulary; those words that students see in their textbooks and in testing situations.
Religion; We are celebrating the Easter season and starting our last unit, "We Pray". We will be studying the various prayer traditions of our Church and applying them to our lives. Science; We are almost finished with "Earth Materials". We will then start on "Landforms". Art; We will be exploring perspective, point of view and texture. We will be creating some pieces where students will demonstrate balance, harmony, emphasis and unity.
Computer; We will be using the computer to enhance classroom instruction.
Give your child extra help with the Religion tests by going to this website, then clicking on Catechists and Teachers, then click on Chapter Review. Our text is NOT the Legacy edition. You can do the review on line and it will probably be more fun for your student than the book.
