Confirmation for Teens

Confirmation Preparation Process

Registration for the Confirmation Process begins in the spring of eighth grade. All candidates must complete the eighth grade curriculum in the school or Faith Formation. The preparation process will include retreats the completion of 8 core course which will be offered at different times throughout the year and participation in High School Faith Formation. This program can be completed at the candidate’s own pace with the assistance of their sponsor. Students who start the process in the spring of their 8th grade year are typically confirmed in the fall of their 10th grade year although many students defer their confirmation until 11th or 12th grade year.

Parent Orientation

Parent Orientations are mandatory for a student to enter the confirmation program - one parent must attend prior to your son or daughter entering the program. We will discuss the program expectations, to include content, structure of the program, retreats, service projects, interviews and the importance of parental and sponsor support and guidance both during formation and after they receive the Sacrament.

Parent Orientation is typically held on a weekday evening in April 5:30-8:30 pm; the day or timeframe may vary slightly.

Parents must bring completed registration forms, Baptismal certificate and a sacramental fee with them to the orientation. Students are not considered registered for the program if the above requirements are not met and will not be allowed to attend classes until the requirements are met. Incomplete paperwork will be returned.

Sponsor Orientation (Spiritual Mentorship Workshop)

This seminar is for the Sponsor only. It will offer guidelines for the role of Confirmation sponsor. Sponsors will learn to mentor and spiritually advise their candidate in a strong one - to - one relationship.

Sponsor Orientation is typically held on a Saturday 9 am – 1 pm in May. Lunch is provided.

Student Orientation

Typically this is a two-day event:  Friday evening with a NET Team, then Saturday evening attend a Lifeline Mass and event at NET Ministries in South St. Paul.  This orientation is held only ONCE per year. A make-up activity may be scheduled. However, students wishing to enter confirmation should make every effort to attend the scheduled orientations as an appropriate make up activity may not be available.

Students may not enter the Confirmation Program without attending the orientation!
